Sell online from a WordPress shop you own

WooCommerce turns WordPress into an online shop: products, a basket and checkout, stock, orders, taxes and shipping, with payment gateways such as Stripe and PayPal added as extensions.

From £10 a month, VAT included. No server to run.

  • HTTPS and your own domain
  • Health checks and restarts
  • Security updates underneath
  • Online shops
  • Selling digital downloads
  • Click and collect
  • Bookings and subscriptions with extensions

First steps

  1. Sign in. When the app is live, open it in the console and choose Reveal admin password; it is shown once, so save it in your password manager. Then sign in at your-name.apps.fresh.dev/wp-admin/.
  2. Work through WooCommerce › Home: your store address, currency, tax and shipping zones.
  3. Add a payment method such as Stripe or PayPal from WooCommerce › Settings › Payments.
  4. Change the admin email, and add SMTP details in the console: order confirmations and receipts are sent by email.
  5. Set a permalink structure under Settings › Permalinks so product pages get readable addresses.
  6. Launch the shop when you are ready: it stays in WooCommerce’s “coming soon” mode until then.

Connect your other systems

With permalinks set, create a REST API key under WooCommerce › Settings › Advanced › REST API to read orders and products from accounting or fulfilment tools:

curl -u ck_your_key:cs_your_secret \
  https://your-name.apps.fresh.dev/wp-json/wc/v3/orders

Good to know

  • WooCommerce usage tracking and marketplace suggestions are turned off.
  • Payment details are handled by your payment provider; card numbers never touch your shop.

The WooCommerce project

WooCommerce is open-source software, licensed under GPL-3.0-or-later. Fresh runs version 11.2.1 of the upstream release for you. Fresh is not affiliated with the WooCommerce project; for questions about the software itself, its documentation and community are the best place to start.
