First steps

  1. Sign in. When the app is live, open it in the console and choose Reveal admin password; it is shown once, so save it in your password manager. Then sign in at your-name.apps.fresh.dev/accounts/login/.
  2. Upload a few documents in the web interface and watch Paperless read and tag them.
  3. Create tags, correspondents and document types; Paperless learns to assign them.
  4. Set up mail fetching under Mail to import attachments from an inbox.
  5. Add SMTP details in the console.

Upload from scripts or scanners

Anything that can make an HTTP request can file a document:

Mobile apps for Paperless-ngx use the same API at your app’s address.

Good to know

  • OCR covers English, German, French, Italian and Spanish. Office documents aren’t supported.
  • There is no consume folder: documents arrive by upload, the API or mail fetching.
  • The optional AI features need your own OpenAI-compatible or Ollama endpoint.
